The high surf advisory in effect for the west coastline of the Big Island, from North Kohala through South Kona, that was set to expire this morning has been extended until 6 p.m. today as a large northwest swell continues to produce advisory level surf.

Surf of 7 to 10 feet is forecast by the National Weather Service in Honolulu to start the day, lowering to 6 to 8 feet this afternoon as the swell gradually declines through the weekend.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming and other ocean activities dangerous along western shores.

The public is urged to heed all advice from ocean safety officials if they plan any activities on the coastlines in the advisory areas.

Remember: when in doubt, don’t go out.
