Hawaiian Electric begins on March 3 a 6-month project to rebuild a section of its transmission line inside Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.

The project is expected to be completed by September, weather permitting.

Crews will relocate and upgrade 56 utility poles and install new equipment along Highway 11 between mile markers 28 and 30.

The project will be done in four phases — tree trimming, hole digging, installation and energization. Work will require intermittent one-lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays on the highway.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution when approaching and driving through the work zone.

Flagmen will be present to provide traffic control.
