The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Advisory for the west facing shores of North Kohala, South Kohala, North Kona, South Kona and Kaʻu on Hawaiʻi Island through 6 p.m. this evening.

Surf heights will be higher than normal and are expected to reach 7 to 10 feet. Strong breaking waves and currents make swimming dangerous today.

The moderate to large west-northwest swell will continue to remain elevated before slowly declining this evening.

Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution when entering the water.
