US Coast Guard medevacs man from vessel 8 miles offshore of Honoka‘a
The U.S. Coast Guard earlier this week transported an injured man from a fishing vessel 8 miles northeast offshore of Honoka‘a.
U.S. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a report at 3:22 p.m. Monday from the captain of fishing vessel Honua-‘Oe requesting a medevac for a 51-year-old man who injured his abdomen when he fell into a porthole.
The vessel was about 20 miles north of Hāwī.
Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point on O‘ahu rendezvoused with the crew of the Honua-‘Oe at 8 p.m. offshore of Honoka‘a.
The helicopter crew hoisted the injured man and transported him to Hilo International Airport, where he was transferred to emergency medical services to receive further care.
The man is reportedly in stable condition.
