West Hawai‘i County Band, other Kona groups offering sounds of season
Have you been waiting to hear about the most famous reindeer of all? You know. The one with the shiny red nose Gene Autry sings about? Or are you more into bells jingling?
Oh! We know!
Some Nat King Cole playing softly and roasting chestnuts over a crackling open fire while you sing along with Bing Crosby and dream about having snow for the holidays, wishing everyone a Mele Kalikimaka, or Merry Christmas — that’s more your speed.
Whatever the song, music or carol, sometimes all it takes is one favorite tune — even a few notes or just a bar or two — to transform simply being home for the holidays to truly the most wonderful time of the year.
The West Hawai‘i County Band hopes everyone is enjoying the 2024 holiday season and invites the Big Island community to celebrate even more with a concert at 4 p.m. today in downtown Kailua-Kona.
It will be an hour of holiday favorites performed by the more than 20 West Hawai‘i musicians from all walks of life who comprise the civic and community band sponsored by the Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation and West Hawai‘i County Band Friends.
Admission is free. The performance will be at Hale Hālāwai, located at 75-5760 Ali‘i Drive.
