Tree removal work continues at Kolekole Gulch Park, located just north of Honomū on the Big Island’s Hāmākua Coast, and the park will be closed through Friday.

The maintenance work, which started Monday, is being done adjacent to the narrow section of Old Māmalahoa Highway that extends from Highway 19 to the park’s entrance.

That part of the road also will be closed during daytime hours while work is ongoing.

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation says if tree removal is completed sooner than anticipated, the park and road could reopen ahead of schedule.
