West Hawai‘i residents could experience temporary 9-1-1 outage

The 9-1-1 services could be temporarily unavailable later tonight and into early Friday morning for several areas on the west side of the Big Island.

Hawai‘i Police Department announced Wednesday that Hawaiian Telcom will be conducting scheduled maintenance work starting at 11:59 p.m. tonight, which could lead to an outage of up to 60 minutes.

Residents and the public are advised to take the following steps during a 9-1-1 outage in the event of an emergency:

  • Try calling 911 first.
  • If unable to reach 911, please call the Hawai‘i Police Department non-emergency line at 808-935-3311 or Hawai‘i Fire Department at 808-961-8336.
  • If you are close to the Kona Police Station, call 808-326-4646, ext. 253. If you are near the Nā‘ālehu Police Station, call 808-939-2520.
  • Proceed to the nearest police station, fire station or designated police post (listed below) for assistance if you are still unable to get assistance.
