His vehicle was damaged consistent with being shot at; he was uninjured.

Responding officers determined the man went to the Trade Wind Boulevard residence in an attempt to contact his ex-girlfriend, who he thought was there. He and his ex-girlfriend got into a heated verbal argument upon his arrival.

Borum, who is now in a relationship with the man’s ex-girlfriend, attempted to intervene and asked the man to leave. Borum then reportedly retrieved a firearm from inside his residence and fired several shots toward the man, who was in the process of leaving.

The man’s ex-girlfriend contacted police to report the incident shortly after he called authorities. She said he came to her current boyfriend’s house wanting to discuss visitation of their child, Borum attempted to intervene and as a result he shot at her ex-boyfriend’s vehicle.

A detective with the Hawai‘i Police Department Area II Criminal Investigation Section and Ka‘ū patrol officers at 4:30 p.m. Monday contacted and arrested Borum, who also surrendered an unregistered handgun and ammunition.

A search of the Trade Wind Boulevard property resulted in the recovery of several spent casings thought to have been discharged from the handgun.
