The Hawai’i Clean Water Branch issued an alert late Sunday afternoon urging the public to remain out of the waters at Kailua Bay near Kailua Pier on the Big Island due to a wastewater discharge.

The spill has entered Kailua Bay, and a comfort station is closed with cleanup in progress by maintenance personnel, according to the announcement.

The pubic is advised to remain out of the water until warning signs have been removed from the area.
