Alleged Hilo bank burglar faces several charges

A 30-year-old Hilo man faces several charges after allegedly burglarizing a bank in the 100 block of Pauahi Street in Hilo during the early morning Wednesday.

James Lee Nathan III

James Lee Nathan III is charged with:

  • Second-degree burglary.
  • Second-degree criminal property damage.
  • Fourth-degree theft.
  • Fourth-degree promoting a harmful drug.

His bail was set at $21,100.

South Hilo patrol officers responded at 1:46 a.m. Wednesday to an interior motion alarm at the Pauahi Street bank and within minutes located Nathan standing outside in close proximity to a broken window.

Nathan was arrested, and officers found 2 reusable bags labeled with the institutions brand and 4 whole alprazolam pills were recovered upon a search of his person.

Nathan was transported to the East Hawai‘i Detention Facility in Hilo.
