The Hawai‘i Police Department advises Big Island motorists to avoid a portion of Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.

Heavy rainfall has caused the highway to flood and debris to spill onto the highway near Ali‘i Kai subdivision, resulting in the highway’s closure between Lunapule Road and Keakealani Drive.

Traffic will be detoured for the next several hours.
