The Hawai‘i Fire Department and Hawai‘i County Civil Defense reported Sunday evening that personnel and equipment from Waiākea Fire Station No. 2 in the Keaukaha area of Hilo have been temporarily relocated to another firehouse.

Both agencies also indicated that response delays can be expected in the Station 2 coverage area because of the relocation.

A Civil Defense message said issues with the Waiākea Firehouse, located at 95 Keaa St., caused the relocation of “personnel and fire apparatus.”

The Waiākea station personnel and equipment were moved nearly 5 miles away to the Fire Department’s Station No. 3 at 285 Haihai St.

“Hawai‘i Fire Department assures the public that fire, rescue and emergency medical services will continue, but do expect some delays to response in the Station [No. 2] coverage area of Keaukaha,” said the Civil Defense message.

The agencies will update the public when conditions change.
