Update: Downed tree, flooding closes roads

Update at 8:04 a.m. Sept. 16: The east end of Wood Valley Road in the Ka`u District is currently closed due to flooding, according to the Hawaiʻi Police Department. The police say no alternate routes are available at this time.

Update at 7:22a.m. Sept. 16: Hawai‘i County Civil Defense reports that Hawai‘i Police Department is saying one lane of Highway 19 in near the 44-mile marker in Hāmākua is closed because of a downed tree.

Motorists should expect delays in the area until the roadway is cleared.

Original post from 6:13 a.m. Sept. 16: Hawai‘i Police Department advises Big Island motorists to avoid the intersection of Maku‘u Drive and 20th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park for the next 3 hours.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes on Paradise Drive.
