The wastewater discharge advisory at the Kailua-Kona Pier on the Big Island has been canceled and all temporary warning signs have been removed, after the Hawai‘i Department of Health reported a spill that occurred over the weekend.

Sewage spilled into the ocean near and around the Kailua-Kona pier beginning Sunday afternoon. The Hawai‘i Department of Health advised the public to avoid going into the water there due to the spill, caused by a clogged drain in a nearby restroom.

An unknown amount of sewage spilled onto the pier and into the ocean.
