Update: Big Island man now charged with robbery, theft in connection with Kona bank robbery

Update at 4:27 p.m. Aug. 30: 44-year-old Brandan Patrick Nicholson of Kailua-Kona is now charged by Hawai‘i Police Department with second-degree robbery and second-degree theft in connection with a bank robbery Thursday afternoon in Kona at a bank in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road.

He also had an outstanding bench warrant.

Nicholson’s bail was set at $125,000.

Police executed search warrant today on a backpack he was carrying during the robbery and recovered a total of $2,808 in cash.   

Original post from 5:51 p.m. Aug. 29: A Kailua-Kona man was arrested in connection with a bank robbery Thursday in Kona and Big Island police continue to investigate.

Hawai‘i Police Department Kona patrol officers responded just before 3:30 p.m. today to a report of an active bank robbery in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road.

Police learned that a man entered the bank, produced a note demanding money and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one in the bank was physically injured.

After further investigation, including witness interviews and a review of video surveillance, officers identified the suspect as 44-year-old Brandan Patrick Nicholson of Kailua-Kona.

Nicholson, who was last seen heading North on Kuakini Highway, was located nearby and arrested at 4:37 p.m. Nicholson has not yet been charged.
