Puna man facing charges after assaulting a male and stealing his laundry bag

A Puna man accused of assaulting a man and stealing his laundry bag was granted supervised release by a Hilo District Court judge.

The incident occurred on Aug. 16 in the parking lot of the Pāhoa 7-Eleven on Pāhoa Village Road. According to police reports, 38-year-old Benjamin Aldosa Jr. struck the victim multiple times before robbing him and leaving the area on foot.

Aldosa was charged with second-degree robbery, a class B felony. He was being held on $50,000 bail when he appeared in court on Monday.

Over prosecutors’ objections, he was granted supervised release and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 4.

The robbery offense carries either a penalty of a 10-year prison term or four years probation and up to 18 months in jail.
