Hilo International Airport primary runway to be closed for nighttime maintenance work
Nighttime runway work is planned for next week on Runway 8/26 at Hilo International Airport — the facility’s primary runway — as part of the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation’s ongoing efforts to improve takeoff and taxiway operations.
The runway will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Aug. 19-22, weather permitting. Work could finish sooner.
The maintenance work is scheduled at night to minimize impacts to air travelers and airline operations. It also is meant to reduce project duration as much as possible.
Runway 3/21 will be used as an alternate for aircraft operations during the closure.
The work is necessary to ensure safety for all aircraft operations. The state Transportation Department appreciate’s the public’s understanding and aplogizes for any inconvenience.
