Roth will go up against Alameda in Hawai‘i County mayoral race in November

Incumbent Mayor Mitch Roth will meet challenger Kimo Alameda in the general election on Nov. 5 following a relatively close primary race, according to preliminary results posted late Saturday night by the state Office of Elections.

Roth maintained a lead over the packed race, with a total of seven candidates vying for the job.

The mayor captured 37.1% of votes with 18,399 votes. Alameda garnered 27% with 13,419 votes.

Trailing behind were Breeani Kobayashi with 9,872 votes and Jr. Tupa‘i with 5,868.
