Ocean View man indicted for sexual assault of minor turns himself in
A Big Island man indicted for sexual assault of a minor younger than 14 years old turned himself in Friday afternoon at the Kona Police Station.
Larry Stephan Hultberg of Ocean View is accused of assaulting the minor throughout a 6-year period from October 2017 to October 2023. The 44-year-old is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14 years.
All three charges are Class A felonies that carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Hultberg is scheduled to make his initial appearance Aug. 5 in Kona Circuit Court.
He remains in custody in lieu of $500,000 bail.
The case was initiated by Officer Manual Sorcy Jr. with the Hawai‘i Police Department Kaʻū Patrol. The felony investigation was led by Detective Scott Dewey with the department’s Area II Juvenile Aid Section.
The case is being prosecuted by Hawaiʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Frederick Macapinlac.
