High tide cycle could bring coastal flooding throughout the islands

Higher-than-predicted water levels combined with near-peak monthly tides and a south swell moving through could lead to minor coastal flooding through the weekend statewide.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, the best chance for coastal impacts will occur in the afternoon hours around the peak daily high tide cycle through Sunday in the typical vulnerable low-lying coastal areas.

A combination of the high water levels and a south swell peaking later today through the weekend could lead to water sweeping across areas of the beach that typically remain dry through these afternoon high tide cycles.

Motorists should avoid driving through flooded roadways. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and watch for overwash around boat ramps.

Secure canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches.
