Final draft of Hawai’i County General Plan 2045 to be released by end of July
The final recommended draft for the Hawai‘i County general plan 2045 will be released July 29.
The general plan will serve as a 25-year blueprint for the long-term growth and sustainable development of Hawaiʻi Island. The document establishes the vision, policies, and actions necessary to enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
The plan also addresses topics such as active living, climate change, quality jobs, housing choice and affordability, local economy and traffic.
Hawai‘i County Mayor Mitch Roth thanked those who came together to work on the general plan.
“This plan will allow our keiki and their keiki to thrive here for generations, and we look forward to sharing the recommended draft with you all,” he said.
Once the final recommended draft is released, it will be available online and at local libraries.
Public Informational Workshops will include a formal presentation and will most likely be held during the weeks of Aug. 26 and Sept. 2.
The public will have 21 days after the last workshop to share their comments with the Planning Director. Once this period ends, the Final Recommended Draft and all public comments will be sent to the Windward and Leeward Planning Commissions.
The commissioners will have 150 days to review and provide their recommendations to the County Council. The public is encouraged to join in and share their thoughts during this process.
