No injuries reported following structure fire in Kawaihae

No injuries were reported following a storage shed fire in Kawaihae early this morning.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze at 12:47 a.m. on the 65-1200 block of Kawaihae Road, about 600 square feet adjacent to Habitat for Humanity. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a storage shed fully engulfed in flames.

A bystander stated that there was possibly one occupant in the structure.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished within 30 minutes and cleared of all occupants. The hazard was mitigated and the scene was turned over to Hawai‘i Island police.

The damages are estimated at $36,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
