December 2023 Hawaiian Acres murder investigation continues

Big Island police continue their probe into the death of 39-year-old Dingie Anthony Dean Martin of Mountain View toward the end of last year.

Puna Patrol officers responded shortly after 2:15 p.m. Dec. 23, 2023, to a residence in the 16-1600 block of Koloa Maoli Road, or Road 9, in Hawaiian Acres after receiving a report of a man who was shot. Officers discovered Martin on the ground in the driveway at his residence being tended to by several acquaintances.

Martin was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Hilo Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m. Dec. 24, 2023.

Following an autopsy, a forensic pathologist ruled that Martin died as the result of a single gunshot wound to his head and his death was the result of homicide.

The investigation was classified as second-degree murder.

Detectives from the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Area I Criminal Investigation Section responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

Police have not identified a suspect or motive in the case; however, they continue to conduct interviews and follow up on tips and leads.
