Big Island lane closures: April 27-May 3
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announces its schedule for lane closures for April 27-May 3. The schedules can change at any time, without notice, and all projects are weather permitting.
— VOLCANO ROAD/MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 11) —
1) HILO
Single lane closure in the southbound direction, between mile post 4.8 and 5.6, in the vicinity of Macadamia Drive, beginning Tuesday, April 30, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for contractor to replace traffic counting loops.
2) MOUNTAIN VIEW
Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 13.6 and 14.4, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for application of new striping on the speed humps at Mountain View Elementary, gas station and post office.
3) PĀHALA
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 40 and 42, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
4) PĀHALA (WEEKEND WORK)
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 42 and 44, on Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
5) CAPTAIN COOK
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 89 and 90, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming and vegetation cutting.

Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 90 and 91, on Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and shoulder restoration.

Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 97.2 and 104.7, in the vicinity of Haleili Street and Filipino Clubhouse Road, beginning Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crews to work on safety improvements of the roadway.

Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 114 and 115, on Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 114 and 115, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for shoulder work and vegetation cutting.

Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 7.08 and 7.12, in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the installation of roadway striping on the speed hump at Haʻaheo Elementary School.
2) PĀPAʻIKOU TO PEPEʻEKEO (WEEKEND WORK)
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 7 and 10, in the vicinity of Kulaimano Road, on Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
3) HONOMŪ TO HAKALAU
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 13 and 15, in the vicinity of Chin Chuck Road, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
4) WAIMEA
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 51 and 54, in the vicinity of Iokua Place, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for application of new roadway striping and reflective markers.

Full closure in both directions, in the vicinity of Panaʻewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens and North Kulani Road, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for resurfacing of the roadway.

Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 0 and 4.2, in the vicinity of Hawaiʻi Belt Road and Pōhaku Drive, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, for installation and upgrading of utility poles, conduits and traffic cabinets.
2) KEAʻAU (WEEKEND WORK)
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 2 and 4, on Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.
3) PĀHOA
Single lane closure possible in either direction, between mile post 11.3 and 11.5, beginning Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for application of new striping on the speed hump at the intersection of Keaʻau-Pāhoa Road and Post Office Road.
