Update at 6 p.m. April 24: Big Island police report that Kawaihae Road is now open to all traffic at the 3-mile marker in South Kohala.

Original post from 3:08 p.m. April 24: A portion of Kawaihae Road in South Kohala is closed near the harbor at the 3-mile marker because of a traffic crash.

The Hawai‘i Police Department and Hawai‘i County Civil Defense advise that all traffic between North and South Kohala will need to use Highway 250, or Kohala Mountain Road, as a detour for the next several hours.

The public will be updated as conditions change.
