A wind advisory is in effect starting at 6 p.m. till 6 p.m. Thursday for Big Island summits.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, southwest winds from 30 to 50 mph with localized gusts to 65 mph are expected.

Winds this strong can make driving and walking difficult. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

Consider postponing travel to the summits until conditions improve. If you must travel to the summits, use extra caution when walking and driving. Be careful opening or closing doors.
