Big Island weekly lane closures: March 23-29

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation has announced lane closures for March 23-29. Closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

In observance of Prince Kūhiō Day and Good Friday there will be no Highway 130 contraflow on March 26 and March 29.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY/HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD

HILO TO KEA‘AU

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 1 and 7.2, in the vicinity of East Lanikaula Street and Old Volcano Road, on March 27 through March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting in the median and shoulder.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 1.5 and 4, in the vicinity of Lama Street, March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Volcano Highway possible in either direction between mile post 13.6 and 14.4, beginning March 25 through March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for application of new striping on the speed humps at Mountain View Elementary, Gas Station and Post Office.

VOLCANO (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction, between mile post 33 and 36, March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction, between mile post 36 and 38, March 27 through March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 90 and 93, in the vicinity of Ohia Malu Road, on March 27 through March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 91 and 92, in the vicinity of Hawai‘i Belt Road, March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming.

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 97.2 to 104.7, in the vicinity of Haleili Street and Filipino Clubhouse Road, on March 25, March 27 and March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for crews to work on safety improvements of the roadway.

HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD/KAWAIHAE ROAD

PĀPA‘IKOU (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction between mile post 6.2 and 6.4, in the vicinity of Kapue Stream Bridge, on March 23 and March 24, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for emergency repairs to Kapue Stream Bridge.

PĀPA‘IKOU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction between mile post 6.2 and 6.4, in the vicinity of Kapue Stream Bridge, beginning March 25 through March 29, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for emergency repairs to Kapue Stream Bridge.

PĀPA‘IKOU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 7.08 and 7.12, in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway, with the work schedule as follows:

  • March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

HAKALAU (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 15 and 16, in the vicinity of Chinn Chuck Road beginning March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming.

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 15 and 16, in the vicinity of Chinn Chuck Road, beginning March 27 through March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the tree trimming.

PĀPA‘ALOA TO ‘O‘ŌKALA

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 23 and 27.6, in the vicinity of Stevens Road, on March 25, March 27 and March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for applying new roadway striping and reflective markers.

PA‘AUILO

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction at mile post 34.6 in the vicinity of Kalapahapu‘u Stream Bridge, on March 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Fire ant control.

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction at mile post 34.8 in the vicinity of Kainehe Stream Bridge, on March 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fire ant control.

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction at mile post 35.7 in the vicinity of East Pa‘auilo Stream Bridge, on March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fire ant control.

HONOKA‘A

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction between mile post 36.9 and mile post 37 in the vicinity of Waipunahina Stream Bridge, on March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fire ant control.

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction at between mile post 39 in the vicinity of Kalōpā Stream Bridge, on March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fire ant control.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 51 and 54, in the vicinity of Iokua Place, on March 25, March 27 and March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for application of new roadway striping and reflective markers.

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 51.7 and 53.8, in the vicinity of Mud Lane and Pu‘umanu Place, on March 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping of the centerline of the road.

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road possible in either direction, between mile post 57.01 and 57.03, for crews to install new roadway striping on the speed hump at Waimea Community Center. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

KEA‘AU-PĀHOA ROAD

KEA‘AU

Single lane closure on Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road possible in either direction, between mile post 0 to 4.2, in the vicinity of Hawai‘i Belt Road and Pohaku Drive beginning March 25 through March 28. For installation and upgrading of utility poles, conduits and traffic cabinets.

PĀHOA

Single lane closure on Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road possible in either direction, between mile post 11.3 to 11.5, for application of new striping on the speed hump at the intersection of Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road and Post Office Road. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction, between mile post 0.18 and 0.23, for crews to install new roadway striping on the speed hump at Ulu Lā‘au Lane. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 and 10.6, on March 25, March 27 and March 28, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for crews to clean and dress the roadway shoulders and removal of Best Management Practices.

KAMUELA (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road possible in either direction, between mile post 12 and 16, on March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting and shoulder work.

PUAINAKO STREET

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Ave and Komohana Street, on March 25, March 27 and March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving work.
