5:11 p.m. March 19 update:  Highway 11 in South Kona, between Ho‘okena Beach Road and Waiea Road, is now open in both directions. 

Original post: The Hawai‘i Island Police Department is advising the public to avoid Highway 11 in South Kona for the next two hours due to a vehicle crash.

According to the department, “a vehicle crash near the 101-mile marker has closed both directions of travel on Highway 11, between Ho‘okena Beach Road and Waiea Road, and will require a detour of traffic for the next two hours.”

Some roads have closed due to the incident.
