Public asked to prepare for murky water following upcoming fire hydrant flow test

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Water Supply has announced water in some areas may be temporary discolored and murky due to a fire hydrant flow test along Kanalani Street on March 27.

The department said the affected areas are: Kaloko Light Industrial Area, North Kona, Hawai‘i customers along Kanalani and Kamanu Streets between Hina Lani Street and Kimo Drive, including any crossroads, side roads, and lanes.

The Department of Water Supply will be conducting the fire hydrant flow test along Kanalani Street from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024.


Waters in the affected areas might be slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours after the test, the Department of Water Supply said in a statement.

The department is advising customers to refrain from washing clothes and to store a container of water for their drinking needs until the supply of water is restored to normal.

People who experience any any unusual problems during or after the flushing period are asked to call District Supervisor Joshule Johnston at (808) 322-0600.
