Update: Closed portion of Hawai‘i Belt Road in South Kona reopens

7:13 a.m. March 15 update: The Hawai‘i Police Department reports that Hawai‘i Belt Road is now open to all traffic. 

Original post: The Hawai‘i Police Department reports a portion of Hawai‘i Belt Road is closed in South Kona near Ho‘okena at mile marker 97 and at mile marker 105 due to debris on the roadway.

According to witnesses, the closure is a result of a single-vehicle crash where a truck flipped over.

Expect delays for the next few hours. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
