The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for west-facing shores of North Kohala, South Kohala and South Kona Districts.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a large northwest (320 degrees) swell is moving down the island chain and producing warning-level surf along the north- and west-facing shores of the smaller islands.

Surf of 6 to 8 feet is expected. The advisory is in effect till 6 p.m. Friday.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents are also expected and will make swimming dangerous. Head all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
