Update: Wainaku Bridge in South Hilo reopens after car vehicle crash

2:25 p.m. March 12 update: Hawai‘i Island police reports that the Wailuku Bridge in Hilo is open to all traffic. 

Original post: Wainaku Bridge is closed in South Hilo because of a car crash this morning.

The bridge will remain closed until engineers can assess its structural integrity. Motorists are advised to use the Pu‘ueo Street Bridge or Highway 19 to cross the Wailuku River.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
