A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for portions of the Big Island.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, east winds of 20 to 30 mph, with localized gusts up to 50 mph, are possible in South Kohala and the south, southeast and interior sections of the island.

Winds will be the strongest over and just west of terrain.

The public in the advisory areas is advised to watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving, make sure tents and awnings are secure or taken down and be prepared for power outages.
