Big Island weekly lane closures: March 9-15

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announced lane closures for March 9-15. Closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY/HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD

HILO TO KEA‘AU

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 0 and 7.2, in the vicinity of Banyan Drive and Old Volcano Road, on March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

HILO

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 4 and 5, in the vicinity of Lama Street and Ikaika Street, on March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming and mulching.

HILO (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 3 and 5, in the vicinity of Palai Street, March 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming and mulching.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 13.6 and 14.4, beginning March 11 through March 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for application of new striping on the speed humps at Mountain View Elementary, Gas Station and Post Office.

NĀ‘ĀLEHU (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction, between mile post 68 and 69.5, in the vicinity of Lorenzo Drive, March 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 91 and 93, in the vicinity of Ohia Malu Road, on March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

CAPTAIN COOK (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 95 and 98, in the vicinity of Hawai‘i Belt Road, March 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for tree trimming and vegetation cutting.

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 97.2 to 104.7, in the vicinity of Haleili Street and Filipino Clubhouse Road, beginning March 11 through March 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for crews to work on safety improvements of the roadway.

KEALAKEKUA

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile post 111.40 to 111.47, in the vicinity of Hale Ke‘eke‘e Place, beginning March 11 through March 15 for the installation of permanent striping on crosswalk and speed hump. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD / KAWAIHAE ROAD

PĀPA‘IKOU (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction between mile post 6.2 and 6.4, in the vicinity of Kapue Stream Bridge, on March 9 and March 10 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for emergency repairs to Kapue Stream Bridge.

PĀPA‘IKOU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction between mile post 6.2 and 6.4, in the vicinity of Kapue Stream Bridge, beginning March 11 through March 15 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for emergency repairs to Kapue Stream Bridge.

PĀPA‘IKOU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 7.08 and 7.12, in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway, beginning March 11 through March 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for application of new striping on the speed hump at Ha‘aheo Elementary School.

PEPE‘EKEO TO NĪNOLE

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 11 and 19, on March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for skin patching.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 15.3 and 15.32, on March 13 through March 15  from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fire ants control.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 15.5 and 17.6, beginning March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the application of new lane striping and reflective markers.

NĪNIOLE

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 18 and 18.2, on March 11 through March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fire ants control.

PĀPA‘ALOA TO ‘O‘ŌKALA

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 23 and 27.6, in the vicinity of Stevens Road, on March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for applying new roadway striping and reflective markers.

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road possible in either direction, between mile post 51 and 54, in the vicinity of Iokua Place, beginning March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for application of new roadway striping and reflective markers.

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road possible in either direction, between mile post 57.01 and 57.03, beginning March 11 through March 15 for crews to install new roadway striping on the speed hump at Waimea Community Center. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

KEA‘AU-PĀHOA ROAD

KEA‘AU

Shoulder closure on Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road possible in either direction, between mile post 0 and 4.2, in the vicinity of Hawai‘i Belt Road and Pohaku Drive, beginning March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for crews to install and upgrade telecom poles, conduits and traffic cabinets.

PĀHOA

Single lane closure on Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road possible in either direction, between mile post 11.3 to 11.5, beginning March 11 through March 15. For application of new striping on the speed hump at the intersection of Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road and Post Office Road. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction, between mile post 0.18 and 0.23, beginning March 11 through March 15 for crews to install new roadway striping on the speed hump at Ulu Lā‘au Lane. The work schedule for the week is as follows:

  • March 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • March 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road possible in either direction between mile post 6.17 and 10.6, beginning March 11 through March 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crews to clean and dress the roadway shoulders and removal of Best Management Practices (BMPs).

KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road possible in either direction, between mile post 12 and 16, on March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting.

PUAINAKO STREET

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street possible in either direction, in the vicinity of Hawai‘i Belt Road and Komohana Street, beginning March 11 through March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for preparation work for an upcoming paving project.
