Update: Kawaihae Road in South Kohala reopen between 64- and 67-mile markers

Update at 4:37 p.m. Jan. 13: The Hawai‘i Police Department reports Kawaihae Road is now open to all traffic.
Original post: The Hawai‘i Police Department reports Kawaihae Road in South Kohala is closed in both directions between the 64- and 67-mile markers because of a brush fire.
The public is asked to avoid the area, if possible, as firefighting crews are on the roadway battling the blaze.
Alternate routes include Waikōloa Road to the South and Kohala Mountain Road (Highway 250) to the North.
