High surf advisory for north- and east-facing shores concludes

3:45 p.m. update: The National Weather Service canceled the High Surf Advisory for north- and east-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island.

Original post: The National Weather Service extended the high surf advisory for north- and east-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island through Wednesday evening.

Hawai‘i County’s Department of Parks and Recreation will clear debris from Moku Ola and Waiolena Beach Parks, which will open this afternoon. Onekahakaha Beach Park will remain closed today for debris clearance.

As conditions remain elevated, additional closures may occur without warning. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
