The Young Brothers’ barge, Kala‘enalu, arrived in Hilo this morning as scheduled, however, due to a large northeastern swell causing a surge at the pier, the barge is currently waiting off port for ocean conditions to improve.

According to a letter sent to customers, Young Brothers will make another attempt into the harbor this afternoon when ocean conditions are forecasted to improve.

East-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island are under a high surf warning. Bay Front Highway in Hilo is closed due to high surf and debris. High surf is forecasted to continue through the rest of the week.

Due to these conditions, Young Brothers warns it may cause further delays to arrival times for sailings scheduled this week to the Neighbor Islands.
