Update at 7:47 p.m. Nov. 30: Rain showers with gusts of up to 45 to 55 mph will continue to impact the southeast slopes of the Big Island through late tonight.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu says the strongest winds are expected in the area downslope from Volcano Village in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
The strong winds are expected to diminish by daybreak Friday.
Original story post from 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a special weather statement for the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Volcano Village and Kalapana areas because of gusty rain showers that will persist through 7:45 p.m. today.

At 6:15 p.m., national park rangers reported very strong winds in showers downslope from Volcano in the park. The strong winds are expected to diminish in the next couple of hours.
Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are possible. The winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
The public is advised that if they are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
