Shopping deals have been cropping up everywhere for the past month, but Black Friday kicks off a weekend holiday shopping that offers deeply discounted deals. And while a lot of Big Island residents hit big box stores in Hilo on Friday to grab those normally high-ticket items, the latest poll revealed residents preferred to stay home.

Big Island Now wanted to know if you would be among the Black Friday shoppers this year. With 102 votes, most voters weren’t interested in getting up that early to shop. Another 69 people voted against shopping on Friday as they don’t need to get trampled as there have been instances across the country in the past where people have been injured and in one instance killed.

Texasrose33 commented on social media: “A big NO.”

Thirty-eight voters said they said for Cyber Monday deals. Commenters on social media were all about Small Business Saturday. Thirty-two people voted to support local on Small Business Saturday.

Instagram user abadabadosomething wrote: “Support our community not corporate.”
