Big Island hunters are advised that there will be an increase in military presence at Pōhakuloa Training Area on lands bordering and adjacent to the state’s hunting Unit A on Mauna Kea from mid-October to mid-November.

The increase in military presence is because of a large-scale training exercise at the U.S. Army facility.

Military personnel will be conducting various types of training in Mauna Kea Hunting Unit A. Hunters are asked to observe and stay within the unit’s boundary, to use caution and comply with applicable hunting and safety requirements to ensure their safety and that of military members who might be present in the area.

There also are no hunting opportunities at Pōhakuloa Training Area during October and November because of heavy training activities.
