One new Lāhainā wildfire victim identified by Maui, FBI authorities; death toll remains at 115

Maui Police Department confirmed the identity of another victim involved in the West Maui wildfire as Buddy Carter, 85, of Lāhainā.

The death toll of the Aug. 8 blaze that devastated Lāhainā remains at 115 with 61 people now named. Authorities identified an additional seven victims and are working to contact their next of kin.

On Friday, Maui police and the FBI released a third list of 66 names who were reported unaccounted for following the fire. Over 3,200 individuals who were reported unaccounted for, the FBI has determined at least 2,696 of those to be safe. Authorities continue to review and vet reports of the unaccounted individuals.
