Brush fire near Highway 190 in Kona contained, all roads open

Update at 2:26 p.m. Aug. 18: According to Hawai’i County Civil Defense, the Hawai’i Fire Department reports that the brush fire in North Kona near Highway 190 is contained. All roads are open.

Update at 2:14 p.m. Aug. 18: The Hawai‘i Police Department reported at about 2 p.m. Friday that Māmalahoa Highway (Highway 190) is now open between mile markers 16 and 17 in North Kona.

Original story: A section of Māmalahoa Highway, or Highway 190, is closed due to a brush fire between mile markers 16-17.

No Kona-bound traffic is allowed from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway intersection. No Waimea-bound traffic is allowed from mile marker 15. The Hawai‘i Fire Department is on-scene fighting the fire. Expect the closure to last for at least two hours.
