Update: Big Island wildfires in Nāʻālehu and Pāhala contained
Update: 2:38 p.m. on Wednesday: The brush fires in Ka‘ū are contained. Assistant Fire Chief Darwin Okinaka with Hawai‘i Fire Department said crews are currently mopping up the areas.
Original post: Two new brushfires flared up Wednesday afternoon in Kaʻū — one in the Nāʻālehu area and the other in Pāhala.
The Nāʻālehu brushfire is reported to be under control, with fire crews are focusing on the Pāhala blaze, according to Hawaiʻi County.
