Update at 1:10 p.m.: Mamahahoa Highway is now open in both directions.

Original post: Motorists should avoid Mamalahoa Highway, near mile marker 61 and Whittington Beach Park in Kaʻū due to a downed tree and power lines. The road is closed in both directions.

As an alternative route, use Old Canehaul Road.
