Kings’ Shops on Kohala Coast celebrates first responders

Kings’ Shops on the Kohala Coast celebrated local emergency medical teams, police officer firefighters and other first responders last week on the Shops’ putting green.

The occasion was made possible through a collaboration with the non-profit organization Friends of First Responders.

In an atmosphere filled with laughter and gratitude, young and old enjoyed golf on the green, carnival treats like cotton candy and popcorn, nonstop live entertainment, and a lunch buffet by Foster’s Kitchen.

The day included skillful face painting and balloon artistry by Kimmie the Magician, and the music of Haunani Wershig, Tom Zablan and Duke Tatom.

Most exciting for the keiki, a fire engine, tanker, and ambulance made a special appearance, despite being on call, to greet the attendees.

Friends of First Responders was founded in 2021 by Police and Fire Chaplain Renee Godoy,
whose years of experience inspired her to help generate more community support for first
responders and their families.
