Update at 6:15 a.m., June 2: The National Weather Service has canceled the wind advisory for the Big Island summits.

Original post: The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Big Island summits through 6 p.m. on Friday as the subtropical jet stream strengthens across the eastern islands.

Winds this strong can make driving and walking difficult. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

Consider postponing travel to the summits until conditions improve. If you must travel to the summits, use extra caution walking and driving.
