Live Like Treʻ Day to be held in Hilo to honor fallen firefighter and star Keaʻau athlete

The Live Like Treʻ Foundation is coming to the Big Island to celebrate the life and legacy of a fallen Maui firefighter who was a 2016 graduate and star athlete at Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i in Kea‘au.

Treʻ Evans-Dumaran died at age 24 in early February after responding to a call to remove debris and create a safer water flow for the residents of Kihei, Maui. He was swept into the ocean for approximately 800 yards through a storm drain and died in the hospital more than a week later.

Live Like Treʻ Day is being held on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo Gym.

The event includes family activities, music, food and an opportunity to explore a fire truck. Participants also can share their words or thoughts about Tre’ at his slideshow corner.

The Live Like Treʻ Foundation was established to continue Tre’s work of spreading kindness and happiness, according to event organizers.

Funds raised through the Live Like Treʻ Day events will support community members in
making the Hawai‘i community better through funding small acts of kindness projects.

Additionally, the Live Like Treʻ Foundation will offer scholarship opportunities with a
focus on student athletes in single-parent households, students who have the desire to
become a pilot, and students born to teen parents. Funding also will be available for
training and uniforms for new and upcoming firefighters.

“We invite community to celebrate the life and legacy of Treʻ Evans-Dumaran through
Live Like Tre’ Day and support our community through these initiatives,” said Chelsie
Evans, mom of Treʻ. “Treʻ was a kind and generous soul who touched many lives, and
we hope that Live Like Treʻ Day will inspire others to follow his steps, and continue his
legacy.”
