Hawai‘i police renew request for information in Puna homicide case

Hawai‘i Island police are renewing their request for information relative to a May 2022 homicide in Nānāwale Estates that left 36-year-old Junio Resun dead.

On May 21, 2022, shortly before 3 a.m., Puna patrol officers responded to the intersection of Nānāwale Boulevard and Seaview Road, after receiving a report of a man that had been shot. Responding officers located the victim’s lifeless body lying in the intersection of the roadway, surrounded by family members.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section responded to the scene to continue this investigation, which remains classified as a second-degree murder.

Over the past year, detectives have interviewed multiple witnesses and had forensic testing of evidence completed. At this time, a clear motive in this slaying has not been identified.

An autopsy determined that Resun died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest, and the case was ruled a homicide.
