Update at 11:26 p.m. May 13: Big Island police report that the portion of Highway 11 in Captain Cook that was previously closed because of a vehicle crash is now open.

Original story: The Hawai’i Police Department is advising motorists to avoid a portion of Highway 11 in Captain Cook because of a traffic incident.

A vehicle crash near Manago Hotel has resulted in the highway’s closure between Road F and Kinue Road, which will require a traffic detour of traffic for the next several hours. Big Island police recommend using alternate routes and remind drivers to drive with caution as first responders are in the area.
