Man indicted for receiving package at Volcano Post Office with methamphetamine
Eric W. Clough, 42 of Volcano, was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month for the attempted distribution of methamphetamine in relation to receiving a package containing nearly one pound of methamphetamine on March 12, 2022 at the Volcano Post Office.
Clough made his initial appearance in Hilo Circuit Court on Monday. His bail was maintained at $135,000 and he was ordered to appear for jury trial on Sept. 18, 2023, according to the Hawai’i County Prosecutors Office.
Clough was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted promoting of a dangerous drug (a class A felony punishable by a 20-year prison term of 10 years probation and up to two years in jail). He also was charged with one count of second-degree promoting a dangerous drug.
The investigation was a collaboration between members of Hawai‘i Police Department’s Area I Vice Section and Special Enforcement Unit, Homeland Security Investigations, and U.S. Postal Inspection Services. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Muñoz.
